Our History
Quaker Valley Recreation (QVRA) was originally organized in the 1970s by community volunteers to provide youth baseball and softball programs for boys and girls living or going to school in the Quaker Valley School District.
In 1977, Sewickley Area Soccer (SAS) was formed to organize youth soccer programs for the same children within the community.
In 2004 SAS changed its name to the Ohio River Football Club. It also created a single moniker for all teams within the club: The Sentinels. This change was made to reflect the fact that many of the players within the club come from other communities but the players attend one of our local private schools or their friends live here. So its membership stretches beyond simply the Quaker Valley School District and it wanted a name that aligned with this fact.
In July 2006, QVRA and The Sentinels merged. The goal of the new QVRA was to pool resources and partner with the local school district in order to deal with a very serious shortage of available playing fields.
Today, this new partnership has given QVRA the opportunity to:
- Share resources,
- Integrate scheduling to better manage the development of multi-sport athletics, and
- Create an infrastructure to develop and maintain outstanding playing fields on which children can learn and develop as athletes.
